Proudly Supporting the Malaysian Government

We worked with the government of Malaysia to train, up-skill and mentor hundreds of individuals to become remote PAs. We delivered this programme at cost as part of our ESG commitment to create dignified, sustainable employment opportunities for women and young people around the world.

The Challenge

The Malaysian government identified that remote administrative services delivered as a managed service was a new global industry, recognising that they had an opportunity to become the primary delivery hub for Southeast Asia and a major force in Asia-Pacific (APAC) as a whole.

To leverage this opportunity, the government needed to train, up-skill and mentor individuals to become remote PAs.

Malaysia-2

The Solution

A key Malaysian government goal is to empower women and young people and help them find (or return to) work. The closely matching values of SmartPA created a strong common alignment, helping us win an initial contract to devise and deliver a training programme for 800 (predominantly female) Malaysians.

Free-to-consumer training, funded by the Malaysian government and provided at cost by SmartPA, was delivered via virtual sessions facilitated from SmartPA’s Edinburgh offices and in-person validation sessions hosted in Malaysia by local SmartPA partners. Trainees were supported in batches through a 2-week intensive programme, receiving a SmartPA accreditation on completion.

The Outcome

  • Newly skilled, inspired and enthusiastic individuals with a new-found confidence and hunger to succeed.

  • A successful, cost-effective, world-class training programme delivered on behalf of the Malaysian government that required almost no investment in time or effort from them.

  • A repeatable process capable of delivering predictable numbers of trained, accredited resources.

  • The start of a Southeast Asian hub for remote admin services.

  • A relationship between SmartPA and the Malaysian government that has led to a commitment to increase trainee numbers to 20,000 over the next 3 years.
